Clearing/Unselecting Multi-Value selections made

I used to use the 'Select All' to clear the previously selected values by checking and unchecking it. However now with 2005 sp1 this is unavailable. Does anyone know of any way to unselect/clear all selections made without manually going down a long list and unselecting the old selections?

Up to the top...

Come on now, where our options for this?!!!

Microsoft can do better than this.

|||

Ron,

Sorry to tell you but they took away the <select all> functionality in SP1. You now need to manually add an "All" option and account for it in the sql. I know, this is a huge disappointment and I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone with an ounce of sense would find this acceptable. It sucks. There are 5th tier reporting options that perform way better than this. This is one of the most basic reporting functions. First, we had to wait for the multi-select functionality and now they have gone and messed it up.

|||

Yes i understand and i have tried the workaround. It doesn't help with what i want.

What i want to do is be able to 'clear' all the previous selections made so i can make new multivalue selections without having to go down the list and uncheck the previous selections. Is there a way to do this? It wasn't just a select all, it was also an unselect all.

Column) what value will mean "Cleared" For a chacacter type column that's
not hard, Just an Empty String, I guess makes the most sense, but for
numeric or date columns, it's bit harder, The value you choose may be a
meaningful value in rows that are not "Cleared"
If the Columns allow Nulls, you could use null, but that's not really what
null iod supposed to be for, (it means UNKNOWN) so I wouldn;t recommend that

I've been trying to find info on how to get rid of this and can't seem to
find anything of use so does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Clearing Transaction Log automatically...

I know this question has been asked before but I've found no answers that
seem to work.
I want to automatically clear my database transaction log to 10mb or so. My
current method is to detach the database. Rename the tlog file. Single file
attach the database. Then delete the tlog file.
I've tried DBCC SHRINKFILE (MYDB, 10) but this doesn't work. And I have
yet to get BACKUP LOG to work. Can someone offer any advise?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.What errors do you get when you try the backup log statement?

Clearing the Report server

Hi,

How can I clear my report server?

Any help will be highly appreciated

Thanx in advance.

Ronald

Hi Ronaldlee,

if you want to drop all encrypted content of the database, use the "Reporting Services Configuration" in the program menu. Navigate to Encryption and Pusg the delete button. All reports / security settings / users and data sources will be dropped and the database be reset.

HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

|||What do you mean by clear? If you just want to remove all items, then go to the root folder and delete all top level nodes. As long as you have permission, everything will be deleted. If you really just want to start over (and are running RS 2005) use the Report Server config tool to create a new database for RS to use.|||

Hi Daniel,

How do i reach the root folder. Do I access it through http://localhost/reports (Report Manager).

Thanx in advance.

Clearing Single User Mode/lock

What is the best way to clear Single User mode from SQL Server 2000?

I have tried going to all tasks and selecting detach and clear Connections using this database. I then click cancel and go into the properties and options and clear the Restrict access check box. This seems to work some times but not all the times. I think it is because something else connects to it to it while I am going through the above steps. As a last resort I have detached the database and re-attach it.

What is causing the single user mode to happen in the first place?

I am a little confused, the system is going into single user mode of its own accord and you want to get it back out again? Have you looked at the error log to find out why it is going into Single User?

This will set a database into single user and then back out again;

ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks
SET SINGLE_USER
WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE;
GO

ALTER DATABASE AdventureWorks
SET MULTI_USER;
GO

|||

The error log has the following

DBCC CHECKDB (ANS, repair_fast) executed by zz101zz found 0 errors and repaired 0 errors. Elapsed time: 0 hours 0 minutes 9 seconds.

I don't see any other entrys or errors.

|||
Does script I gave you bring it out?|||I will try it next time it goes into single user mode. Thanks!|||

One of my coworkers tried the script and batch file but said that he got a message that it couldn't be done when database is already open.

clearing reportviewer and reload of dynamic report

I have an application that builds the SQL Select statement and creates the report in ReportViewer. The trouble is this, it will not reset the data that is already loading in the report. I have to close out of the ReportViewer screen and come back in to make new selection options. What am I missing?.

ReportViewer.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local
Dim rView As LocalReport = ReportViewer.LocalReport
rView.ReportPath = "myReport.rdlc"
Dim ds As DataSet = GetDonorData() '<-- This executes my sql query
Dim dsDonor As New ReportDataSource()
dsDonor.Name = "dsDonor_Data"
dsDonor.Value = ds.Tables("dsDonor")
rView.DataSources.Add(dsDonor)

PrivateFunction GetDonorData()
Dim dsDispAsNew DataSet
Dim sqlDonorDataAsString ="SELECT * from Table Where Class =" & selitem
Using connectionAsNew SqlConnection("Data Source=Server;"persist security info=False;Database=Test")
Dim commandAsNew SqlCommand(sqlDonorData, connection)
Dim DonorAdapterAsNew SqlDataAdapter(command)
DonorAdapter.Fill(dsDisp,"dsDonor")
DonorAdapter.Dispose()
command.Dispose()
Return dsDisp
EndFunction

If anyone is interested, I added:
"rView.DataSources.Clear" just before the add statement.

|||

Thanksklschultz013

For anyone interested this is slightly different and in C#

//RV2 is the report

RV2.ProcessingMode = ProcessingMode.Local;
RV2.LocalReport.ReportPath = "Reporting/ReportBookings.rdlc"; //the physical name of the report
DataSet ds = RunStoredProcSelect(spStr, ParsArray, ParCnt);//function to return a dataset
ReportDataSource rptds = new ReportDataSource();
rptds.Name = "DataSet1_bBookingSelect";//Name of the Datasource in the Report [as in the report designer]
rptds.Value = ds.Tables[0];
RV2.LocalReport.DataSources.Clear();
RV2.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(rptds);
RV2.LocalReport.Refresh();

Clearing parameter input

Hi everyone,

I have a question that I believe should be simple to answer yet I cannot find the answer anywhere. I am trying to make it possible for my report to clear the input box whenever the report is run or when anything in a dropdown list is selected. The reason why I want this is because my report has a dropdown list that inputs date ranges for "quick" report info. The other option is to manually type in the begin and end date. If anyone could help me out with this I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Roy

Visual Studio 2005 makes this quite simple. However, you may be able to accomplish this using custom code in BIS, but I'm not sure how.|||

Thanks for the reply but I still don't userstand how it can be done in Visual Studio 2005. What does BIS stand for?

Thanks,

Roy

|||

Business Intelligence Studio.

Have you developed a front-end for your reports and used dropdownlists in a windows or web application?

Or are you just using a multivalue parameter in business intelligence studio?

|||

Ah ok thanks. There will be no front-end for the reports because the end-user will access the Reports Server using a link from our company intranet site. Permissions will be given based on department, etc. I am not using a mutlivalue parameter. The report gives financial information (sales, etc) based on the date range. The first dropdown gives you predetermined ranges (yesterday, month to day, etc) and also a "Custom" option. The "Custom" option gives the user the ability to fill in the other two boxes with their desired date range. The problem that lies here is sometimes the end user will select a predetermined range like yesterday. So the dropdown stays on "yesterday". Then they might decide they need to put in a custom date range. They forget to change the dropdown to Custom first. Now when they click "View Report" the end result will be yesterday's information which leads to misinformation because of operator error. I want to prevent this. A couple of ways this can be done is:

1) when any of the predetermined options are selected, the two other fill-in boxes are greyed out. (cant find out how to do this)

2) when clicking a predetermined option, the two fill-in boxes are cleared so there is no confusion (not the best method but can't do no 1 so will stick with this one)

Thanks again,

Roy

|||

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

|||

>>Anyone have any ideas

Um, yes, I do.

If you don't want to develop your own parameter-handling interface, and if the parameters have bearing on one another, the prompts should say so. They need to reflect what your code is doing (presumably ignoring the dates unless "Custom").

So, for example, instead of FromDate and ToDate you can say

FromDate for Custom Range:

ToDate for Custom Range:

... or even more explicit:

FromDate (used for Custom Range only):

ToDate (used for Custom Range only):

... and for your drop down you might also change the prompts in the dropdown.

Yesterday

Month To Date

Custom Range From Date Input

... kind of a pain the way the default interface will arrange your params, and not fool proof, but you are giving the user the information they need to understand what will happen when they make choices.

Clearing out snapshot folders

They should be removed by the cleanup agent, provided all subscribers have
been initialized. Do you have anonymous subscribers? That'll force them to
hang around until the retention period is reached. So - 2 things to check:
anonymous subscribers enabled and is the cleanup agent enabled...

Have a look at sp_helpdistributiondb.

|||Hi,
i'm having the same issue as Dave...I have anonymous subscriptions,
clean up agent is enabled, retention period is set to 48hrs,
subscription expiriation is set to the default 14 days. but in the
repldata folder i have snapshots that have been created from months
ago.
how come they are not being cleaned up? what else do i need to check
besides what was already mentioned?
Thanks in advance
Steve
