Cluster manager hangs
the cluster goup manualy from the one node to the other. the problem is i
can't move the sqlgroup manualy to the other node. When i do that the sql
manager hangs and nothing happends till i reboot the node where the cluster
group is active than become the group active on the second node. The cluster
dont log anything in the event viewer or the clusterlog file that i cab use
to find the cause of this problem.
I need some help to solve this problem.
Thanks
From the context, by "cluster manager" and "sql manager", I take that you
meant "Cluster Administrator", and Cluster Administrator still reports the
state of the cluster properly, right? (e.g. you can view whether a group is
online and on which node the group is running, etc) In addition, the SQL
instance itself works fine, right?
I'd try to establish whether this is a Cluster Administrator tool problem or
the cluster/sql problem. Try tto move the SQL group using Cluster
Administrator on one of the nodes itself. Failing that, check to see whether
the cluster service works properly w.r.t. the SQL group. For instance, you
can deny the cluster service account access to the SQL instance, and this
will force the cluster service to bounce the SQL group between the nodes
(because its IsAlive check would fail) and eventually give up. If the cluster
does behave this way, I'd then focus on troubleshooting the Cluster
Adminitrator itself.

|||Hi Linchi,
Yes, i mean the cluster administrator. I have two clustergroups named "SQL
cluster group" running on Server1 and the "cluster group" running on
Server2. When i start the cluster administrator i can manualy move the
cluster group to server1 without problems. Failback is also working fine. But
when i try to move the SQL cluster group to Server2 the cluster administrator
hangs and the only way to get the SQL cluster group running on server2 is
taking server1 offline. the same problem occurs when i try to failback to
server 1.
The SQL cluster group contains the folowing resources:
-Disk R
-SQL IP address
-MSMQ
-SQL network name
-SQL server
-SQL Server agent
-SQL Server Fulltext
Also i did the following test:
When i take the SQL server resource offline i can move the SQL cluster group
between the 2 servers. and when i take the SQL server resource online again a
try the same the cluster administrator hangs.
Note: Server2 acts as 2003 DC and DNS server

Manager have to be in the sysadmin role? If not, what are the roles that it
does require?
Thanks for any guidance.
Neil
The Cluster Service must be a local admin on each server. The Cluster
Manager application is an MMC snap-in and can run wherever. Specific
cluster functions may need specific security role membership. I generally
give the person who administers a Cluster local administrator rights on each
node.

with local admin rights on each node. There should be a domain account that
matches the service account.

Cllient Unable to establish connection
Others are also not able establish connection - they get a General Network error when trying to connecting to my server.
Think the Blue screen death corrupted some SQL driver in the process. Now am apprehensive about uninstalling and re-installing the SQL server since am unable to backup the databases.
Can anybody help please?SQL 2k?
I find it very unlikely...did you bounce the box?
Did and admin revoke your rights?
Blue screen of death? Haven;'t seen that in a loong while.
What o/s and what patches?|||SQL 2K with SP 3. Running on Win 2k (SP4) Server. There has been no change in the admin rights. it just stopped working after the crash.
that's why its confusing.. not much help from Miscrosoft either.

The server is installed in my laptop and am accessing from the same machine using the SQL Query Analyser. The laptop is a Win2k Server (SP4).

Clients not installing
SMS Client Configuration Manager cannot connect to the machine
"ComputerName". The operating system reported error 1314: A required
privilege is not held by the client.
Possible cause: The client is not accessible.
Solution: Verify that the client is connected to the network and that the
SMS Service account or (if specified) the SMS Client Remote Installation
account have the required privileges, as specified in the SMS documentation.
Does the account I specified in Connection Accounts need to have local admin
perms? How can I double check?

Client utilities for MSDE
I heard from a guy that the client utilities (Enterprice Manager and Query Analyser) that are on the Sql Server 2000 CD can be fetched separatly from Microsoft and that they can be deployed with MSDE to a potential customer.
Is that correct?
And if it is, where can I obtain those client apps?
TIA
OhlywohlyNope. You can't get the client utilities for free (legally), and deploy it to a customer.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/tools/default.aspx
That's what you're limited to.|||You absolutely cannot deploy the Client Tools with MSDE to a customer! The whole point of MSDE is that it's an engine and your application should supply the means necessary to manage it.
If the client already owns a version of SQL Server then they may legally use the Client Tools to manage MSDE.
Unfortunately the Client Tools are not available for purchase separately. You might consider a set of 3rd party tools.

Client Network Utility
ice using the Service Manager.
I have already created an alias using Client Network Utility - TCPIP.
But every time i select the service i get The network path is not found.
ANy ideas ?You really do not need the alias... So delete it ( to start).
Run client network utility and make sure that TCP IP is seleted onthe
client..
Begin by going to the server and starting sql
On the client
1. Go to the command prompt and try to ping the server
name
Then run Query analyzer and simply try to connect using a trusted connection
to the servername..
The most common reason you get the error which is 'the server is
unavailable or the network path not found.'
is that the server is not running.

I am getting these errors from Report Manager. It seems that every time after the server has been idling for about 15 minutes, I would get this error message. I can click on other links and I am able to continue to use Report Manager.
